Blue Plate Diner

Have you been to the Blue Plate Diner? You should. Its well known for its breakfast food and its appearance on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. The atmosphere was divey, fun, and clean. The food was good and the service was great! Our server brought some fruit cut into Anna size pieces which kept her entertained just long enough for us to get a few bites down. If you're looking for something to try in Sugar House, give this spot a try!

Our Little Buddy

She goes to all of our church meetings, she helps run errands and is an excellent shopper, she helps pick dad up from work and is happy to play, explore, and entertain herself when we are so busy doing other things. I am so grateful for such an easy child who just happens to be happy as well. We definitely love having her in our family.

My Sister is Home

Today Anna and I are joining up with my parents and my younger brother and sister to pick up the first RM from our family (besides my parents) at the SLC airport. She served an 18 month mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chicago, Illinois. At 10:30 we will be excitedly and tearfully waving our banners to welcome her home.  She was always my closest sibling. We are the two oldest and always shared a room and sometimes a bed. We are so close and I can't wait to have her home and for her to meet Anna. Excited is such an understatement.

My Tuesdays are pretty great. Anna and I get to hang out with this little guy. He's nine months younger than Anna so I get my new born, little baby, fix and Anna gets to learn how to share and interact with her new buddy. She will pat him on the back to help burp him and is constantly bringing him her toys. He is so smiley which makes Anna and I smile too. I never thought of myself as a baby person, but boy am I turning into one!

Silver Lake

A few weekends ago we finally made the trip up the canyon to Silver Lake. Its a really easy hike that takes you on a mostly paved trail around the entire like. Its pretty easy, with the stroller it took us about 45 minutes walking slow and taking pictures. There were a few other paths you could take and we would love to go back and do some more exploring without the stroller. We definitely recommend this hike to anyone in the SLC area.

The Call

This will probably only happen once in their lives, so I think its worth documenting, that father and son are bishop at the same time.

Zach was called to be the bishop of the Millcreek 5th Ward last Sunday. Zach was extended the call only the week before. It was overwhelming and terrifying, but we have both felt significant peace and a strength beyond our own this week. We have a unique ward made up by a majority of apartments, so we have not been asked to serve for the 5-7 years a bishop would normally be asked to serve. When job or housing moves us away we will be able to step away, though we aren't going to try jumping ship too soon. The past two bishops were only in the ward a year so we're grateful to know it won't last long. You can do anything for a year, right?

We have had many congratulate us on Zach's calling. While I initially felt that condolences was a much better term, I do feel grateful to be worthy of such a call. I also know that we will be blessed, and that those blessings will make up for the hard days, weeks and months ahead. I would not wish this for myself or anyone else, and I was hoping that it would not happen especially while we have a one-year old.

This will be a huge learning year for us. I'm grateful for all those who have already offered shoulders to cry on, advice, support and friendship. I am sure that I will be learning how to ask for help and balancing my time a little more wisely. We have met some incredible people in the last six months and I know we will meet people that we will never want to say goodbye to when our service here is over.

Here is to being more than just Anna's dad. I personally cannot think of a more capable man to take this on (though I wish someone else was asked...) and I know he will do an incredible job. I'm grateful to be married to such a good leader and teacher and pray everyone else will be able to see these qualities as well as I do.

Thank you all for your love and support.

Sunday Dinner

Last Sunday we had a family get togther to welcome Dillon home and to enjoy being together. Dillon served a 2 year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints in Sweden. It worked out perfectly that we could get together for a homecoming and Anna's 1st birthday.

The weather was warm but the breeze kept it just cool enough that we could all enjoy laying in the grass, shoot some hoops, and watch some tennis. The Papenfusess sure know how to party.
